Clare V. Bernard, a retired insurance underwriter, passed away on May 27. She was born in New Orleans on Sept. 28, 1950, to the late Roy and Clare Vicknair. Bernard graduated from Redemptorist High School in 1968. She spent several decades working on the retail and wholesale sides of the insurance business, including stints with Dave Millet Insurance Agency and RODCO Worldwide. She was a past member of The Insurance Professionals of Greater New Orleans, formerly The Insurance Women of Greater New Orleans. Bernard retired from the insurance business in 2012 and moved to Norco in 2014. In 2015, she and her husband moved to Diamondhead, Mississippi, where she loved gardening and walking her dog, Zoe. Bernard is survived by her husband, Joseph Bernard Jr.; children, Melanie Montgomery and Richard, and brothers, Raymond and Edward Vicknair. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Roy Vicknair Jr. A visitation and funeral service were held June 4 at Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp Funeral Home in Metairie.
